aUToSI = A Unified Theory of Social Interaction
In october of 2001, Simon Singh visited my college. In his humorous and enlightening lecture, delivered to a packed audience, he spoke, among other things, about the 'dating test algorithm'. After speaking about pricnciples of cryptography, code breaking and the current state of affairs in the same, Simon Singh demonstrated a very simple test that can be used by two people to determine whether the other wants to date them. However, the logical structure of the algorithm requires that the two apeople must either date or must never meet again. The algorithm:
Kumari Cuppadasa and Muggu Muttakass each think they are in love. But they have no way of knowing for sure if the other is also as hopelessley head-over-heels in love with him/her or not. So here's what they do: They draw and imaginary line in front of the college library and at 3 in the night when only the owls (and other lovebirds of the campus) are still awake, KC and MM perform a bizarre experiment: With their backs together, standing at the same spot, KC and MM begin to walk away from one another on the imaginary line, with the agreement that if one of them turns around to look back at the other while walking, it means that he/she want to date the other. If he/she does not want to date the other, they just continue walking without every looking back. If both of them continue walking w/o looking back, it means neither of them wantedto date the other, while if they bpth turn around, each wanted to go out with the other. Will Muttakass and Cuppadasa be unitied in their quest for true love ? Read part 3 to find out... buhahaha.
* MM is sad but not embarrased because KC doesn't know that he wanted to date her.
** KC is sad but not embarrased because MM doesn't know that she wanted to date him.
