Highway ishtar
With a twist of her lips to one side in a teasing smile she picked up a dripping Paan from the round box that was kept by her side and slowly engulfing it with her red lips, delicately deposited it into one side of her mouth. Then she gave a broader smile and swung the pallu of her pink saree to her left and began to walk away leaving behind a whiff of an intoxicating parfume in her trail. He watched her as she slowly walked upto the dhaba and turned around to give him another smile. He felt strangely intoxicated.
He no longer remember what had brought him there in the first place. He tried desparately to keep himself awake from the strange lust the woman was dousing him in. What followed was a dinner feast in true Lucknowi tehzeeb. First roganjosh gosht and dumpukh, then a faluda thandai and topped with a malai paan.
After serving him dinner on the chaarpai she appeared before him and stood there for a minute, her hair with a string of mogra flowers drawn to one side, slowly drawing the juice from the Paan in her cheek. She wore a diamond nose ring. It flashed before his eyes as she slowly swung left and right. 'Kya aap yahan aaj raat bitana chahenge ?' she asked flashing that bewitching smile again.
The words floated out of her mouth as if in slow motion, each syllable dancing in the air before hitting him. Conciousness was a blurr. He focussed hard on her face. She smiled even more; as if she knew exactly what he was going through. She waved the pink pallu once again, spraying the air with her magical scent. Feeling utterly helpless, he smiled a drunken open-mouthed smile and nodded a yes.
