Jake & Vanda
Jaikumar wasn't known as the best programmer in his software firm for nothing. He had the brains of a true sambhar-drinking, tayyir-saadam-eating Tamillian. He had consistently been the best at math in school and even in college, he would often point out errors in professors' reasoning. Clearly, Jake was a sharp guy and everybody in the office respected him for it.
1:15 pm: Jake is well engrossed in his work, sorting out some mean looking Java classes, when his tummy beckons him. A twisting kind of sound tells him he is very hungry. Jake MUST listen to his tummy. He slowly gets up from his chair and does a huge stretch-yawn motion as droplets of saliva float out of his mouth. He stares at the screen for a second then makes his way for the cafeteria, swinging the white polythene bag that holds his homemade lunch. On the polythene bag are the letters 'PREM DESI STORE', which is where Jake did his weekly groceries.
"Nella irukaaaaa?" came the shrill piping voice from behind him, just like every single day, just as Jake passed her cubicle.. Vandhana Mutthuswamy Venkatagurukesavan was the only other Indian in Jake's office; she had come to be known as 'Vanda' for obvious reasons. Jake turned around even before she had finished speaking (just like everyday) and with a slight swagger of his shoulders and his brows half tiltled to the left, he put on his best 'come-and-get-me-baby' smile. In return, he got a view of Vanda's 32 teeth enclose by lips that adorned bright pink lipstick that closely matched the colour of her top and the nailpolish on her pedicured feet. They stood there looking into each others' eyes for about 2 seconds (just like everyday). She looked a tad taller.
