Intro. to Wedding planning 101
For this introductory course on planning your daughter's wedding you will need:
1. One eduacated daughter aged 19-23 years of age/ (prefereably with good 'computer skills' and 'convent education')
2. One Photo studio specializing in 'wedding photographs'. (50-100 copies of the photo)
3. A good reputation in you social and khandaani circles.
4. Twenty-five years of savings money in bank accouts, pension funds, gratuity money, public bonds and perhaps some under-the-table income adding upto 10 lakhs to 1 crore depending upon your social status.
5. Backup money for dowry. Keeping a car, an apartment, etc for 'extra offerings' as a standby is generally a good idea, in case something goes wrong at the last moment. Prefereably a saloon car, not lower in status than a Ford ikon.
Shilpa is an average next-door college-going girl. She is a 'fun loving' and 'outgoing' person, who enjoys pop music, hindi movies and ice-cream. She is 21.
Shilpa has just been told to by her mammy and daddy 'get ready' to go to the nearby 'Kohli Photo Studio' where her wedding photograph is to be taken. Wait a minute, Wedding Photograph ??? What the hell is that ?!?! Isn't a wedding photograph taken WHILE one's wedding ?? Not quite. Mummy has learnt from Mrs. Sharma of the colony that Kohli's Studio specializes in wedding photographs (read: 'Kohli's Studio does good photo editing to make her daughter look 'fair' and 'pretty'). Ofcourse they charge a feqw hundred extra for such a 'happy' occaison and a noble cause.
6 months later: Copies of Shilpa's studio photo have been sent out to several differnt households in several cities. Most people haven't even replied, let alone returning the photograph. Her father, mostly bald and prematurely 'old' from tension is sitting on his sofa wondering what he should do. 25 years spent in the public sector. He is feeling like a character in the average soap opera on Star Plus or a 90's movie. There simply isnt enough money. Perhaps he should ask his brother for help. After all he lives in Delhi.
Mummy is worried too. All the women in the colony think Shilpa is getting too old. What will happen if she doesn't get married. Hawwwww. Perhaps they should try another studio. It had not been this difficult for her own wedding.
