Accenta Obscura
The last four days have been a high paced journey through the Rutgers campuses, filled with discovery, exploration and amazement. I have met more chinese people here than the people of all other countries put togeter (including Indians). For some reason the Indians here are called 'desis', a term that i have taken an immediate dislike to and which i think conjures up images of oily food in my mind (!).. i think it has to do with 'desi ghee' :)
Anyway, the 'desis' aren't too far behind the chinkies, infesting select ares of the city, following dwelling patterns in keeping with their (our) stereotypical mob psychology and clustering tendencies. Nth generation indians (N >= 2) however have the privilege of being spared the 'desi' label. They have another label though.. its called ABCD (american born confused desi). Hmmm.. it all sounds a little nauseating to me.
One of the most interesting observations I've made is the beautiful variety of accents one comes across. The chinese all speak in the same way. But the Indians.. ahh.. we're a very adapting lot. People with the countriest indian accents have adorned american accents so fast, the americans find it dificult to believe we've only been here a week! Yeah baby....
So many other things i have to write about. Will post in detail again later. Last evening I had the "Fat Durrel", voted the best sandwich in america. Tomorrow evening the're taking us to NY city for "42nd street" on broadway.
