My ishtory - part B

This is part B in a series. If you haven't read part A, here it is. Go on.. I'm waiting for you.

The smell of the first few drops hitting the parched earth had made her come to the window. The candle-flame on the table behind her leapt up in bursts, as if dancing to the rhythm of the falling rain. Very still she stood as she recalled the events that had led to his departure. The sequence played in her head effortlessly, as it had so many times before. She recalled the day she had first seen him. They had hated each other instantly. Then her world began to change. That was four years ago.

When she broke away from her chain of thoughts, an hour had passed and the rain was coming down steadily. Her eyes were still fixed on the pattern that the falling drops made in the air as they descended. The smell of damp earth filled her head and brought a half-smile to her lips. She stretched out one arm to let a few drops fall on her palm. What would it be like to see him return? The thought sent a warm feeling through her. She was certain he would return any day now.
