Estella

She was unreachable;
Always just out of reach.
Like a distant shining star.
But he loved her dearly
and the warmth of her light,
Kept him going. For her,
he wanted to be a 'gentleman'.

Estella had been brought up
to break young mens' hearts.
To play with them,
entice and lure them,
deceive and trap them,
and then drop them flat.

"You must know", said Estella
"that I have no heart, no emotion".
He did not believe her words.
Deeply hurt by her bluntness,
he continued to live with hope and faith
one day his love for her shall be victorius.

“I took her hand in mine and we went out of the ruined place; and, as the morning mists had risen long ago when I first left the forge, so the evening mists were rising now, and in all the broad expanse of tranquil light they showed to me, I saw the shadow of no parting from her.”
